VocaDict ("we", "our", or "us") provides a browser extension designed to help English learners look up, save, and review vocabulary in context. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have full control over your learning data.

- Selected text: Text you highlight to look up in the dictionary.
- Saved words: Vocabulary you actively choose to save, including the surrounding sentence for context.
- Recall progress: Data about your review sessions and spaced repetition stats.
- Settings: Your extension preferences.
- Learning data: History of interactions within the extension to personalize your learning experience.
4. How we use information
We use the collected information exclusively to provide the core features of VocaDict, including dictionary lookups, vocabulary saving, translation, recall practice, and optional cross-device syncing.
5. Browser permissions
VocaDict requires specific browser permissions to function correctly. Here is why we need them:
- activeTab / tabs: To read the text you select for dictionary lookup and translation.
- storage: To save your vocabulary, progress, and settings locally on your device.
- host access (on webpages): To inject the extension UI for inline word lookups directly on the pages you read.
- sidePanel: To display the vocabulary collector and YouTube co-learner dashboard alongside your active tab.
- offscreen processing: For efficient background translation and audio processing without disrupting your browsing.
6. Data storage and syncing
VocaDict is designed to be local-first. By default, all your vocabulary and learning data are stored locally on your device. If you choose to create an account and sign in, your data will be securely synced across your devices.
7. Third-party services
We use trusted third-party APIs to provide dictionary definitions, translations, and pronunciation audio. These services only receive the specific words or short phrases you interact with, not your personal identity or browsing history.
9. Data retention
Local data is retained until you uninstall the extension or manually clear the extension's storage. If you use the sync feature, your data is kept securely on our servers until you delete your account.
10. User controls
You have full control over your data. You can delete all local data by uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage. You can stop syncing at any time by signing out of your account.
11. Children's privacy
VocaDict is not designed for or directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Effective date" at the top of this page or through the extension itself.
